THE main Opposition ‘A Partnership for National Unity’ (APNU) said that, over the past several weeks, persons have been contacting the party seeking information on the process to obtain broadcast licences under the new broadcasting regime. APNU, in a statement yesterday, said it has been advised that the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA) is presently accepting applications for new and renewed licences.
“We, therefore, urge interested Guyanese to make immediate contact with the GNBA Secretariat to obtain detailed information on the application process,” urged APNU.
The GNBA Secretariat is located in the National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) compound on Hadfield Street, Georgetown, and can be reached on Tel # 231-7366.

APNU stated that while it has been informed that the GNBA, through its Chairperson, Ms. Bibi Shadick, did provide some information on its activities at a recent Press Conference, the Partnership believes that the GNBA should spare no effort to ensure that the Guyanese public is properly alerted to the fact that it is now prepared to accept and process applications for radio and TV broadcast licences.
APNU said it is finalising its submission to the National Assembly to rectify the “outrageous aspects” of the current broadcast legislation.
