GOVERNMENT will be tabling a simple amendment to the Customs Act with the aim of bringing equity to tax administration in relation to plastic beverage containers.
The current situation that obtains, applies only to imported plastic beverage containers and not to those locally manufactured.
Additionally, pursuant to Guyana’s

obligations to CARICOM/CARIFORUM, it is required to remove any form of discriminatory treatment to regional goods and this amendment will ensure that the country is in conformity with that obligation.
