Anna Regina IMC decides… Minibus, hire car drivers to pay parking fees

THE Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Anna Regina Town Council has ordered that drivers of mini-buses and hire cars will have to pay fees, from January 2013, to use the Market Car Park.

The decision was taken by the IMC at its statutory meeting yesterday on the approval of a motion.
The IMC is to work out the payment system and meet with drivers and the police to discuss how it will operate.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the IMC is moving to get the public facility near the Anna Regina High Bridge rehabilitated early in the new year and users will be charged a small fee.
In an effort to strengthen its revenue base, the IMC plans to open a canteen near the car park and institute a charge for persons, especially just married couples, to use the bridge, which will be beautified with flowers and seats to make pictorial scenes.
The IMC is also looking to upgrade the Anna Regina Market Road and install street lights, and the blocked drains around the old market are also being addressed.
The IMC is to open the Bush Lot Market on a daily basis and move vendors off the old market road, too.
Also under serious consideration is how to dispose of garbage in and around the market areas and stop the dumping of plastic bottles in nearby drainage trenches.
