Vendors refuse to remove for desilting of Charity sluice

SEVERAL vendors selling on a road in front of the Charity sluice are causing unneccessary problems for the Neighbourhood Democratic Council in the area.

Reports said the vendors were spoken to and given notice to remove so desilting works can begin, but they have refused to move their stalls while the area is suffering for inadequate drainage.
The Regional Democratic Council (RDC] has taken note of the situation and will be moving to have the area cleared so machines can begin work on the channel which is very important to drain the commerical and housing areas.
Regional Chairman, Parmanand Persaud who visited the area recently, spoke to some of the vendors about the importance of desilting the channel, but they have refused to remove.
The sluice is located near the end of the public road and drains the Amazon market and several business places, including the five storeyed shopping complex, two international hotels, a mall and scores of other businesses and residential properties.
