THE Guyana Rice Producers Association (GRPA) hails 2012 as a year of remarkable achievements in all spheres of national life under the leadership of President Donald Ramotar, but more particularly in the rice sector and agriculture as a whole.
The GRPA said that since taking his Oath of Office on December 3rd 2011, President Ramotar has provided remarkable support and guidance to Guyana’s agriculture sector. The rice sector is projected to set another record this year in terms of production; and barring extreme fluctuation in weather, next year will see this trend continuing, the GRPA said.
“President Ramotar underlined agriculture as one of his priority areas when, on October 6, 2012, he stated that his government has farmers’ interest at heart, while speaking at the annual Essequibo Night exhibition, which serves to promote local production.
“The GRPA also recognizes the agriculture potential, particularly in rice farming, and the many other opportunities which will arise from the stated commitment of President Ramotar to aggressively pursue the development of an all-weather road from the Rupununi and a deep water harbour to better facilitate imports and exports.
“Our agriculture sector has also benefited from continued investments in infrastructure to improve production in traditional areas, and opening up previously inaccessible lands to farming across the coastland.”
Under President Ramotar’s leadership, the GRPA said the future of our nation’s continued economic development undoubtedly is assured; and: “The GRPA congratulates His Excellency on a job well done so far, despite the obvious challenges placed in his path.”
