THE Guyana Power & Light Inc is appealing to its West Coast and West Bank Demerara customer base — especially customers between Versailles and Look Out
— to understand that the power outage experienced on Sunday, December 2, was occasioned by ongoing works to deploy four new feeders from the new Vreed-en-Hoop and Edinburgh substations to sectionalise the West Coast Demerara Circuit preparatory to deployment of the new feeders, relocation of voltage regulators and capacitor banks, and reset of taps on distribution transformers to ensure optimum voltage.
When deployed, the four new feeders will serve as follows:
Vreed-en-Hoop Substation
Feeder 1: Vreed-en-Hoop to part of Windsor Forest
Feeder 2: Vreed-en-Hoop to La Grange
Edinburgh Substation
Feeder 1: Edinburgh to Windsor Forest
Feeder 2: Edinburgh to East Bank Essequibo.
The Garden of Eden facility will serve customers from part of La Grange to Vriesland.
GPL advised in a press release that West Bank residents will experience only one instance of power outage due to the ongoing works, while West Coast residents will experience four such instances, but it has undertaken to advise them in advance of the future occurrences.
The GPL CEO, Mr Bharrat Dindyal, has also cautioned consumers of GPL power to beware of the inclement weather and high winds, as those can also cause power outages. He disclosed that there is a network emergency problem in Berbice, but in Essequibo, all four locations are covered.
He also urges GPL consumers to pay their November light bills early, because the entity has to purchase fuel.
