Bullen knows Guyanese thirst for U.S. visas

I wish to respond to a letter written by Freddie Kissoon published in the Kaieteur News captioned, “The US Embassy in Guyana is not doing its work.” In that letter he gleefully reminisces on the Bullen years when he was U.S. Ambassador to Guyana. Those years were marked by a number of top officials in government getting their U.S. visas cancelled. Chief among those were former Commissioner Floyd McDonald; Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee and the now deceased Police Commissioner, Henry Greene. Freddie being his usual empty self tries to insinuate that the new ambassador should tread the same path of meddling in Guyana’s internal affairs with his own visa cancellations. Before I analyse this letter I must give you some background information on this ambassador who was the opposition’s friend.
Roland Bullen is a Barbadian by birth and his wife a Grenadian, both of them are familiar with Guyana’s politics or should I say think they are familiar with our politics. He came here with his small island mentality and well set in his ways to deal with the PPP/C.
Bullen knows fully well Guyanese’s thirst for U.S. visas. Therefore, there is no better way in putting them to shame by taking away their visas. Hence, in the most demeaning fashion he drew up a plan to embarrass top government employees by slapping them with one visa revocation after another. Big names on his list were police commissioners and home affairs ministers even the press secretary to the President, Kwame McCoy.
Now in McCoy’s matter he became judge, jury and executioner, taking away McCoy’s visa privileges, based on a phone call made by him to a minor soliciting sexual favours. I am not here in the least to discuss anyone’s sexual proclivities, however, I would like to look into the area of fairness based on the ambassador’s hasty conclusion. Here, Bullen could have readily cancelled McCoy’s visa yet in the same vein appointed Winston Felix as Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy. Two men, both making phone calls, in the latter’s case speaking in familiar tones to a drug lord, yet he could have sanctioned McCoy but not Felix. In the Felix matter there was damnable evidence given by U.S. electronics experts that it was indeed Felix’s voice. Such a serious matter as this with one having dealings with a top drug lord yet his visa was not taken away. It speaks volumes of the nature of Bullen’s mission here and his biased resolve when dealing with Guyana’s internal affairs. Even more outrageous are those questionable gifts of gold made to that embassy among other things. Why the Guyana government did not ask for his recall is beyond me. They should have by verbal note requested his urgent recall having acted outside of his diplomatic realm. He violated the office of ambassador and by so doing should have been recalled. But as I said, the government of the day was too shy to deal effectively with the Bullen man, maybe afraid of the embarrassment of having their own visas cancelled or maybe falling back on the age-old problem of U.S. hostilities towards PPP governments.

But let me get back to Freddie’s call for the present ambassador to follow suit. It does seem to me that the present ambassador is not so inclined. He is of the type that stays well within his bounds or one who is interested in cordial and developmental matters and not meddling in political nonsense.
Well let me advise Freddie for his big mouth  as well as his friends Nagamootoo, Ramjattan and Hughes should be so sanctioned for plotting and carrying out terrorist attacks on American citizens in Agricola. And I hope Vishnu Bisram is reading this letter. I would like him to gather those Americans that were affected by the terrorist attack and make out a case in an American court as they go after the afore-mentioned ring leaders. I would like to see some visa revocations made out against these guys. Freddie, you have finally messed with the wrong crowd. You have put your foot in your mouth.  See how you and your friends will handle the ignominy of a visa cancellation.
