ACTION in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League continued last Sunday with three entertaining games at two venues.
At the Buxton ground, Alpha United recorded another victory and the team appeared to have found the chemistry as they sank the youthful Buxton United 3-0. Alpha out-scored their hosts in the presence of quite a few supportive spectators. Former National player Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams scored in the 13th and 25th minutes while former Pele forward Marvin Joseph scored in the 73rd minute.
Over at the GFC ground, Pele struggled to edge out a determined Rosignol United team 3-2.
Pele drew first blood as early as the ninth minute when former National player Gregory ‘Jacky Chan’ Richardson scored. The lead was doubled when Konata Manning, also a former national player, scored in the 39th minute.
In the second half Pele made it 3–0 when Travis Grant, another former National, found the back of the net in the 67th minute.
However, an undaunted Rosignol United fired back twice as Christopher Clarkson scored in the 75th minute and Tyson Carmichael in the 87th. With just three minutes left to play Rosignol United began to apply more pressure with relentless attacks but they were kept out by a determined Pele defence who were more than glad when the regulation whistle sounded.
In the feature game, BK Western Tigers held off an energetic and youthful Milerock team 1-0. A free kick by Sherman David in the 71st minute that beat Milerock’s goalkeeper Ryan Rose low to his right was the decider.
Milerock played the entire second half with ten men because Jermain Grandison received his second yellow card in the 41st minute. Many opined that if Milerock had been at full strength for the entirety of the match, the result may have been different.
Meanwhile, the action continues today with Alpha United and Amelia’s Ward doing battle from 19:00hrs at the GFC ground.
