POLICE, acting on information received following an armed robbery at Mahaicony on Saturday night, nabbed the five suspects at a Cove and John roadblock, also on the East Coast of Demerara. The arrested men were in motorcar PLL 3954 and a search of it unearthed two spent shells.
Police reported that, about 19:30 hrs on November 24, at Fellowship, Mahaicony, businesswoman Lalita, 34, was attacked and robbed of $700,000 by five men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Lalita, her husband and other relatives left their business at Central Mahaicony and headed home in their motor vehicle.
However, on arrival at their house, when her brother-in-law went to open the gate, they were confronted by the perpetrators, who took away Lalita’s handbag containing the cash.
In the process, two shots were fired after which the attackers escaped in the vehicle in which they were apprehended. (Michel Outridge)
