THIEVES early Monday morning broke into a jewellery workshop at Hampton Court on the Essequibo Coast and stole jewellery and gold valued more than $500,000. Owner of the business, Mohanram Mahadeo, said thieves took out glass louvres from a window to gain entry and also forced a door to the workshop open.
According to Mahadeo, he and his family were asleep but were awakened by noise at around 03:00hrs, coming from downstairs. But he did not venture outside to investigate. The businessman said he went downstairs at around 06:00hrs and discovered the workshop had been broken into.
The matter was reported and the police responded promply.
Investigations are ongoing.
