Demerara River communities receive solar panels and brush cutters

THE Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has responded in a timely manner to the requests of residents of Endeavour and Clemwood, in the Demerara River, presenting them with solar panel systems and brush cutters.

altResidents of both communities had requested the items from Local Government Minister Ganga Persaud earlier this month, when he led a ministerial team on a visit to several communities in the Demerara River, including Endeavour and Clemwood.
The 135-watt complete solar panel systems cost $264,000 each, and will serve the Endeavour and the Clemwood Primary Schools, while the brush cutters were purchased at the cost of $90,000 each, and are for the communities’ use.

Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Ministry, Collin Croal, handed over the items to the head- mistress of Endeavour, Primary Tricia Sampson and the headmaster of Clemwood Primary, Jeffrey Patterson.alt
Minister Persaud urged that care be given to the use of the equipment, and reminded that the equipment was bought with tax-payers’ money and residents should value their sacrifice.
The minister urged that care be taken of the solar panels so that the children’s learning can be enhanced. He said he expects that the community grounds, including those of the schools and the health centres, will be properly kept.

Minister Persaud was resolute that the Demerara River communities have always been part of the PPP/C Government’s focus, and promised residents that additional requests were shared with the respective ministries for action.
