Guyana contributes US$250,000 to Caribbean countries affected by Sandy

THE Government of Guyana has decided to make a financial contribution to the reconstruction efforts of four Caribbean countries which were significantly affected by tropical storm Sandy.

Tropical storm Sandy, which had hit the Caribbean shores on October 26, 2012, left in its wake widespread destruction to property and the loss of lives in Haiti, Cuba, and Jamaica. While there were no reported deaths in The Bahamas, there was significant damage to infrastructure.
As a demonstration of its solidarity with these sister Caribbean states, the Government of Guyana will be donating US$100,000 to the Republic of Cuba and US$ 50,000 each to Jamaica, Haiti and The Bahamas, to assist with their rebuilding efforts.
