ONE of the problems plaguing our society today is the attempt to rewrite history and this problem is quite pervasive within the opposition’s camp. They, through the various channels available to them would try to distort the facts no matter how glaring the untruth may be.
One such individual is Andaiye, a name that used to be associated with the WPA, but in recent months keeps showing up in the association of repugnance called APNU. She is trying to make a comparison with Dr Jagan’s protest in the 1980s with that of the opposition last week. Andaiye is desperately trying to compare Dr Jagan’s throwing down of a few law books in Parliament to the hooliganism of the APNU-led coalition.
I say this is dishonesty at its lowest ebb. Dr Jagan, then opposition leader out of frustration did this because as history has it, the PNC would openly rig elections to win – they must hear this until Christ comes – then with the same de clase behaviour drown him out whenever he rose to speak in parliament. The drumming on the desks, the name-calling even the expletives; this entire ordeal he had to endure at the hands of these low lives, which caused him out of frustration to throw the books down and walk out. He would have had to leave parliament anyway, something Andaiye failed to address in her letter. For this “unprofessional behaviour” with the mounting odds against him Dr Jagan had to sit in parliament and could not say a word; given a gag order by the speaker. He was forced to respect the stolen democracy of the PNC! That noble gentleman was only restored when he apologised to the house. Talk about injustice that was.
So the injustice continues as the opposition is allowed to hijack the house with their mindless antics and writers condone it. There is no justification for this lawless display. But as the saying goes you join the group and you lose all the traits for decency and moral fortitude. Your senses are benumbed to what is considered normal. Let me refresh your memory as to the behaviour of these people: try figuring out one taking out her underwear and throwing it in the face of another. This reprehensible act was done by Winifred Gaskin to Peter D’Aguiar in parliament. Or try this one: Hamilton Green, then member of parliament, slapping Rickey Singh and no punishment whatsoever coming out of that. The list goes on and on of these glaring PNC now APNU excesses, not forgetting Nigel Hughes’s recent tirade at the Commission of Inquiry.
It irks me to see that the opposition when found guilty of even more serious breaches of the constitution cannot be held accountable for their actions, my blood boils. And nothing is done about it. Andaiye and others of her ilk are a sad, pathetic specimen of what morality is.
