A VERY stirring theatrical masterpiece is poised to be staged at the Theatre Guild on Friday, November 23, 2012, and will have an exciting run until November 25, 2012.
Drama lovers are urged to come out in their numbers as this show promises to be one of the best family-oriented pieces ever to be staged at this venue.
‘Pizza Man’ was written by American Darlene Craviottie, and was adopted and directed by Director of the Vagina Monologues, Collette Jones–Chin. Included in the play are talented acts like Sonia Yarde, Nicola Moonsammy, Mark Luke–Edwards and Leon Cummings.
The play is a hilarious comedy highlighting burning gender issues that men and women endure. It is based on the lives of two young women in their 20s a nd 30s who share an apartment. It is Friday night, and these two women are faced with loneliness. One had been dumped by her married boyfriend, while the other got laid off by her chauvinistic boss.
They are home brooding about life, discussing their problems, and then they decide that, to get back at men, they were going to rape a man. In the process of planning this ‘rape’, one gets hungry and decides to order a pizza. The pizza man enters, and is a perfect candidate, since he is cocky, full of himself, and thinks he is going to strike with the ‘single’ girls.
They invite him in and try to rape him… Of course, as he explains after an hour, it is impossible to rape a man under pressure. The story develops into a sad affair, as the pizza man confesses to the girls his problems as a man, and of course he shocks the girls.
The play ends with them all coming to the realization that, even though they fight, both genders have similar problems, and need each other to get by.
The whole evening serves as catharsis for them all.
Collette Jones–Chin feels that by doing this play she can raise an awareness of the importance of each gender in the lives of each other, and the balance that can be struck if both genders give to each other the respect that is due.
Show time is at 8 pm. Sharp.
