THE Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), held the first in a series of training sessions targeting candidates to be appointed temporarily to work during the fourth Cycle of Continuous Registration which is scheduled to begin early in 2013. The first segment of the Training Sessions was held on November 3-4 at four venues in Georgetown and two at East Bank Demerara. The primary objective of the seminar, which was held at the GECOM Secretariat, was to revisit the entire registration process in a comprehensive manner towards ensuring that the Registration Officials are totally knowledgeable about all of the various aspects of the registration process. Accordingly, emphasis was placed on the need for efficiency at all levels of the registration process by the Registration Officials.
The second segment of the training sessions will be held on November 10-11, 2012 at venues along East Coast Demerara to complete Region 4, as well as locations covering Region 5. This would be followed by similar exercises in the remaining regions.
Following each Training Session, the candidates would be evaluated, based on a written exam, towards ensuring that only those who meet the prescribed criteria would be appointed.
