Camera thief remanded overnight pending sentence

JEVON Ramo, of Lot 87 Sandybabb Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was, yesterday, remanded overnight on a charge of larceny from the person. He will make another appearance today, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, to whom he pleaded guilty, admitting that, on November 5, he stole one digital camera, valued $140,000, from Bruce Monk.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was a pedestrian on the road when the defendant approached him from behind and snatched his camera.
The prosecutor said public-spirited citizens saw what happened and apprehended the defendant in whose possession the camera was found.
Ramo told the court he took the camera because he was hungry and needed something to eat. He claimed he was in search of a job but he did not get any.
The magistrate ordered a probation report pending sentence.
