TWO men, charged jointly with break and enter and larceny, were refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday.
Desmond Mc Pherson and Peter Mc Kenzie (no addresses given) were remanded to prison after the objection to pre-trial liberty for them by prosecutor Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, was upheld.
The indictable charge said, on October 31, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Sonobia Butcher and stole a quantity of clothing and gold and diamond jewellery, valued a total of $8.7M.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant had secured her home and gone out but, later, received a call, informing her that two men were in the house.
The prosecutor said Butcher quickly called the police, made a report and officers arrived promptly on the scene and apprehended the accused with the booty.
According to Bostwick, all the stolen property was recovered.
The prosecutor objected to bail for the duo on the ground that each has pending cases in court, and arrest warrants had been issued for them.
The prisoners have to be back in court on November 9.
