THREE employees of Tony’s Auto Spares appeared in Court yesterday, charged with stealing truck tyres valued a total of $2.1M.
Robert Datadin, 52 and Steven Datadin, 25, both of Lot 30 Marshall Street, Annandale, East Coast Demerara and Joseph Nirghin, 63, of Lot 68 North Sophia, Greater Georgetown, all pleaded not guilty to the joint simple larceny charge, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Particulars of the offence said the trio stole 16 truck tyres, between October 1 and 25, from Tony’s Auto Spares.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said Robert is the father of Steven Datadin and the older Datadin and Nirghin were security guards while Steven Datadin was employed as a sales representative.
The prosecutor said, between the days mentioned in the charge, the defendants stole the tyres and sold them to a tyre shop in Mahaica, also on East Coast Demerara.
According to the prosecutor, during the investigations, all the defendants admitted to the offence.
Substantial
He had no objection to bail but requested that it be substantial and that the defendants report to Alberttown Police Station every Friday at 08:00hrs.
Surety was set at $250,000 each and the case will be called, again, on November 16.
Meanwhile, in the same Court, Aaron Prashad Makhanlall, of Lot 13 Supply, Mahaica, pleaded not guilty to receiving stolen articles.
He is charged with having, between October 1 and 25, received 12 truck tyres, valued $900,000, property of Tony’s Auto Spares, knowing them to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
The prosecutor said Makhanlall has a shop and, allegedly, bought the tyres from the other three defendants but they were recovered and handed over to the Police.
Makhanlall was granted $125,000 bail until, November 16, too.
