Caribbean Cup.. Guadeloupe stumble out but DR, Martinique through

LES ABYMES, Guadeloupe, (CMC) – Losing 2010 finalists, Guadeloupe, produced a late surge but still tumbled out of the Caribbean Cup after a thrilling draw with French neighbours Martinique here Saturday.

Guadeloupe twice came from behind after taking the initial lead but ran out of steam to settle for a 3-3 verdict in the feature match of the doubleheader at the Stade René Serge Nabajoth.
The draw left them on four points, third in Group 7 behind Martinique and the Dominican Republic who topped the standings with seven points after beating whipping boys Puerto Rico 3-1.
In the last Caribbean Cup hosted in Martinique, Guadeloupe came within a whisker of winning the title before going down in a penalty shootout to eventual champions Jamaica.
On Saturday, however, there was no such luck though they took the lead through Larry Clavier’s 13th minute strike.
Gaël Germany levelled for Martinique four minutes later and Steve Gustan scored the first of his double in the 24th to put Martinique out front.
Clavier added his second in the 33rd minute as the teams went to the break locked 2-2.
Afterward, Gustan seemed to have won the game for Martinique with his 63rd minute strike but Vladimir Pascal hit back in the 74th minute to set up a rousing finish for Guadeloupe.
In the earlier game, Jonathan Frias hit a brace as the Dominican Republic strolled to an uncomplicated victory over Puerto Rico who finished the tournament winless.
