TELECOMMUNICATIONS service provider Digicel (Guyana) Incorporated, who joined forces with Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) and Avon to sponsor the inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness cycle road race, will see same pedal off around the outer circuit of the National Park today at 09:00hrs.
The event was launched in the Digicel boardroom two weeks ago, when RBC president Brian Allen labelled it as the largest single-event cycle road race in Guyana, since over $500 000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs. “Cycling has been used many times before as a medium for promoting not only sport, but disease and health issues in Guyana. We just saw the conclusion of the five-stage road race, which is used as the medium for promoting HIV/AIDS Awareness in Guyana.
“This will be the start of a very long and lasting relationship and I am very happy that Digicel has chosen Roraima Bikers Club to foster this relationship on this race; for as you know, the club is one of the leading clubs in cycling in Guyana and we will ensure that Digicel who has risen the bar for cycling in Guyana, gets it money’s worth for this event.”
Digicel’s Head of Marketing, Jacqueline James, said her company was pleased to be associated with RBC in doing something for people with breast cancer, as it’s their way of saying they are willing to continue with the promotion of good health, strength, sports and fitness.
“I am urging persons to come out and support this venture. It is our way of showcasing that cancer does exist in our society. It’s among and around us, whether in our family or even immediate family, even if it is breast cancer or cancer as a whole.
“It is our way of showing those who are living with this disease, Digicel is behind you “
According to James, Digicel will be using the race to let those persons affected with cancer in whatever way, keep fighting, believing. They should be encouraged knowing the fight exists for a cure.
“This may be a step back but look forward to the future as riding for the cause is what we believe in and I am happy to say that Digicel is pleased to partner with Roraima on this venture, while I urge all to come out and support this race, wearing pink.”
