The First Lady and I extend joyous greetings to all on the occasion of Eid- ul- Adha. This Muslim festival reminds us of the power of faith, the importance of self-sacrifice and the obligation of service to others. Today, as the rest of the nation joins with the Muslim community in celebrating Eid- ul-Adha, it is our hope that all Guyanese would use this opportunity to reflect on these time-honored values which have sustained our people for so long, and which remain important in building a more humane and caring society.
As our country advances along the path of sustained growth and social and economic progress, it is important that we recognize that true development can only be attained if material improvements are married with human values and the promotion of the good of all. One way in which we can demonstrate this commitment towards the common good is, as is characteristic of Eid- Ul Adha, for us to reach out to the less fortunate and disadvantaged in our country. In so doing, we will help to make our country a better place.
May the observance of Eid-ul-Adha strengthen and help us to build a more caring, humane society, one in which every man’s need becomes every man’s concern.
