WDCA/N.D. and S. Furniture 40-Over : Independence ‘A’, Zeeburg and Wales win matches

ACTION in the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA)-organised ND&S Furniture 40 overs cricket tournament continued last weekend with games at Wales, Zeeburg and Joe Vieira Park, resulting in wins for Independence, Zeeburg and Wales NDC. Independence ‘A’ came up against All Youths at Joe Vieira Park and, batting first after the match was reduced to 35 overs due to early morning showers, Independence accumulated 246 for 7 in their allotted overs with David Alert and Vivian Beckles contributing 62 and 25 respectively.
Bowling for All Youths, Rahul Persaud captured 3 for 31 runs in 7 overs, but his side could muster only 97 runs in reply with a patient 24 from Azim Haniff, as Mahendra Dhanpaul captured 3 for 10 and Jagnarine Etwaroo who took 3 for 17, guided Independence ‘A’ to a 149-run victory.
At Zeeburg ground, the home team batted first against McGill Sports Club and were bowled out for 198, for which no individual scores were made available, while Jagdesh Balgobin took 3 for 28 and Jevon Hector 2 for 26 for McGill Sports Club, who were bowled out for 121 in return, with Chris Persaud and Mandolall Odnarine capturing three wickets each.
At Wales, Western United battled against the Wales CDC team and they scored 135 batting first, with Doodnauth Balram contributing an unbeaten 35.
Bowling for Wales CDC, Steve Sukdeo and Ramzan Ally took 2 wickets each, before their team reached 139 for 4 from 17 overs to record a comfortable victory, even as Orin Stanley captured 2 for 16 from 3 overs for Western Union..
