BK Western Tigers sink Rosignol 2-1 to take Karibee Rice title

BK International Western Tigers won the title of the Karibee Rice Knockout Tournament champions on Sunday night when they defeated their Berbice counterparts in a thriller at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground. Tigers prevailed 2-1 over Rosignol United to cart off with the top prize of $200 000 while the Berbice side had to settle for the runner-up cash prize of $100 000.
In the third place showdown that was contested prior to the final, Pele whipped Monedderlust as they cruised to a 3-0 victory and the third place cash prize of $50 000.
The final saw the eventual victors draw first blood right off the whistle with Phillip Rowley finding the back of the net in the first minute. Rowley fired a shot from about ten yards outside the 18-yard box which had goal written all over it.
Rosignol’s goalkeeper watched the ball fly past him into the top right hand corner of the goal.
Tigers were gifted a penalty in the 64th minute and it was successfully taken by Sherman David who eased some of the pressure off his side. Rosignol United’s Sherwin Caesar scored an 80th minute goal which came a bit too late to re-energise his team.
Earlier, Pele got pot past their opponents with goals scored by Stellon David (21st), Dirk archer (54th) and Jamal Cozier (60th).
Rowley was adjudged the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) while Romel Legall was the Best Goalkeeper. Every other team that competed in the tournament received $10 000.
The manager of Karibee Rice was on hand to present the prizes to the top performers and he was accompanied by a few staff members.
