DAVINDRA Kumar, of Lot 44 Albouys Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday, on a charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding his reputed wife, Seema Khan.
Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded guilty to the October 9 offence, admitting that he intended to maim, disfigure or cause the woman grievous bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Winneth Hubbard, prosecuting, told the court that the defendant went home that day under the influence of alcohol and abused the virtual complainant.
The prosecutor said the woman was cutting up chicken and Kumar took away the knife from her and cut her on the neck, causing her to faint and she was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for medical attention.
The prosecutor informed the court that the defendant faced a similar charge two weeks ago.
Kumar claimed Khan was hitting him with the knife on his back and, after he took it away from her, she slipped and fell on it, injuring herself.
He maintained it was accidental and not a willful act and, upon hearing the defendant’s explanation, the magistrate changed his guilty plea to not guilty and sent him on remand until October 22.
Meantime, a probation report was ordered in the case.
