FIVE United States citizens appeared before Magistrate Leslie Sobers, at Providence Court, East Bank Demerara yesterday, on separate charges of trafficking narcotics and procuring persons to do so.
One of the defendants, Gregory Hoyte, 20, of Lot 157-18 Seventh Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, is charged with having trafficked 745 grammes of cocaine, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on October 12. He will return to court on October 29.
Another, Adrian Roberts, 38, of Lot 145 David Boulevard, Queens, New York, is alleged to have trafficked 675 grammes of cocaine, at CJIA also on October 12 and he, too, was remanded to prison, until November 5.
Melissa Geria, 25, of Lot 148-17 Boulevard, Queens, New York, is accused of trafficking 490 grammes of cocaine at CJIA on October 12, as well.
Shaniqua Johnson, 19, of Brooklyn, New York, charged with having trafficked 365 grammes of cocaine at CJIA on the same date was remanded until November 9.
Dawn Sunara, 56, of Lot 506 New Jersey, was charged with procuring persons to traffic narcotics on October 12. The registered nurse was granted $2M bail and ordered to return to court on November 20.
All the defendants were outgoing passengers to New York.
