TWENTY-two-year-old Vishaul Rajkumar was sentenced to five years imprisonment after he allowed a nine-year-old-boy to perform an oral sexual act on his person.
The sentence was imposed by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, following a trial at the Reliance Court in East Canje, yesterday. Police had charged Rajkumar with having a sexual activity with a child under sixteen years, contrary to Section 11 [1] [c] of the Sexual Offences Act Number 7/2010.
According to the particulars of the summary charge, on February 12, 2012 at Lot 15 New Street, East Canje, the defendant engaged in a sexual activity with a child, who was nine years of age, by causing him to perform a sexual act.
Police Corporal Orin Joseph, prosecuting, led several witnesses who related that on February 12, last, the nine year old homeless boy, was taken into the defendant’s home by his parents.
But, later that night, his mother awoke to relieve herself and saw her son forcing his penis into the minor’s mouth. She raised an alarm, alerting those within her home and neighbours, who took the offender to the Reliance Police Station where the charge was instituted.
Rajkumar was unrepresented and was startled at the custodial pronouncement.
