The rich couldn’t care what the poor endures

MANY have taken the holier than thou ground in the ‘pirated’ text book issue. I want to ask of the following persons whether in their lives they had never benefited from using pirated stuff, whether it had be photocopied books or parts thereof; pirated CDs or DVDs, pirated movies on television, etc:
Bholan Boodhoo, Lloyd Austin, Candacy Lindo, officers of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, AFC leadership, lawyers for the plaintiff, the Honourable Judge and the retinue of upright persons.
Folks, the rich among us couldn’t care what the poor endures to give their children education. I cannot afford to buy books from Austin’s or Boodhoo. But I can afford to buy the copied books. Am I a criminal for doing that? Are my children criminals for using the copied books?
Several outlets have been prevented from selling the ‘pirated’ books. But there are still dozens of outlets not prevented and, thank God, the poor can still purchase the books. So much for the court order!
It is not the publishers who are objecting to the printing of the books that is the issue. It is the few who can hardly supply a tiny portion of the demand for the texts. Talk of Dog in the Manger!
Please, in the interest of our poor children, let good sense prevail. Take out the politics from this issue and deal with the reality in Guyana.
