THE Guyanese shooters asserted their dominance on day two of the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships (WIFSC) to take the top four positions in the individual category at the Timehri ranges, yesterday. The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA)-organised event saw Lennox Braithwaite, who started the day in fourth on 115 points and 10 V Bulls, accumulate 85 points and 6 V Bulls for a combined total of 200 points and 16 V Bulls at the end of day two.
In second place is the Guyanese team captain Mahendra Persaud who has 199 points and 20 V Bulls, third is Dylan Fields who has 198 points and 15 V Bulls while Ransford Goodluck is fourth with 198 points and 14 V Bulls.
Jamaicans Aubrey Yee-Sang and John Nelson are fifth and sixth overall with 196 points and 17 V Bulls, and 195 points and 15 V Bulls, respectively.
In the opening event of the day, the shooters competed over 300 yards shooting for 2@7 which Braithwaite won with 50 points and 6 V Bulls. However, he was not that fortunate to top the shooters again in the 500-yard shoot as he finished fourth with 35 points and 3 V Bulls.
Yee-Sang and his compatriot Jose Nunez rounded off the top three in the 300-yard shoot with 49 points and 6 V Bulls each.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Norris Gomes won the 500-yard shoot with 35 points and 6 V Bulls ahead of Fields and Mahendra Persaud who shot 35 points each with 5 and 4 V Bulls, respectively.
The competition continues today at the 09:00hrs.
