MASKED bandits subjected a Corentyne, Berbice couple to a brutal beating at around 23:00 hrs on Saturday last after using a sledge hammer to smash down their door.
Chanderdat Samaroo, 40, of Nigg Squatting Area, Corentyne, was shot in the leg by one of the robbers who dragged him out from under a bed, where he had sought refuge from the gang. The bandits carted off an undisclosed sum of cash and over $500,000 worth in jewelry, three cell phones and a CD player.
The (media) reported that none of the neighbours dared to come to the family’s aid since the bandits were shooting wildly at the house and windows.
The (media) should now be joining with the people in calling on Government to train and fully armed those who would like to do so in defending their lives and property.
You bet your life on it had most of these ‘neighbours’ been trained and armed with high power weapons, these terrorist will never enter.
And yes, I called these criminals ‘terrorists’; and they should be tried as terrorist once caught.
Listen to this.
The daughter, (according to a Kaieteur News report) said that the ordeal has left her mother badly traumatized.
“Like she tripping…she steady seeing them and she doesn’t know what she saying sometimes… the nurse telling we that she can’t sleep and she always screaming.”
This is what it feels like when you faced the wrath of terrorists.
My brother and sister-in-law, my nephew and niece faced terrorists in their very own home in the late 80s and to this day they still feel it.
Their neighbours knew what they were subject to but were helpless in doing anything about it.
Had their neighbours had weapons it would have been a vastly different story.
The police and army might not have had to flush out Linden ‘Blackie’ London from a hotel when they invaded my family’s home.
Total waste of time calling police back then, the line was busy then the police phone rang out, no one answered.
Same as today, since nothing has changed where calling the police is concerned.
Once you tell police the bandits are ‘shooting up’, the police dare not arrive, but arrive after the fact.
Even to this day, police phone busy or ring-out or you are greeted with ‘we have no vehicle’ or ‘there is just one police here’.
The more things change, the more it remains the same.
The bottom line is, many more will have to endure and suffer at the hands of terrorists while Government seems impotent.
Government must now see it fit to train and armed those who would like to do so with high powered weapons to match those of terrorists in defending their lives family and property.
