TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant Digicel (Guyana) Limited, sponsors for the last two school championships, last Monday through its Events and Sponsorship Manager, Gavin Hope, reaffirmed its commitment to this year’s Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) National Schools Table Tennis Championships.
According to a press release sent from the GTTA, the championships which will involve schools from Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 battle for supremacy, is scheduled for October 19 to 21 at the National Gymnasium.
The tournament has truly become the nursery for the discovery of new talent, with last year’s championship seeing an unprecedented number of schools from across Guyana doing battle for championship honours.
This led to the championships being extended for an additional two days and based on the interest being generated around table tennis circles, this year’s tourney should be scintillating and exciting
The tournament will be launched by GTTA and Digicel executives on October 17 at Digicel Boardroom in Barrack Street, Kingston, while entry forms and flyers have been sent to schools inviting their participation.
The four-team categories to be contested are 18 years and under, 15 years and under, 13 years and under and 11 years and under and at the end of the championships, the school with the most wins will cart off the Digicel trophy.
Special prizes will be issued to the Most Outstanding Male and Female players along with the Most Improved Player.
