Berbice double murder suspect denies killing, fingers others

THE investigations into the double murder of two self-employed women are continuing, even as the main suspect is under Police guard at New Amsterdam Hospital, after having ingested a poisonous substance.

He laid facing the wall with his right foot shackled to the bed frame. His right arm bore a tattoo with a cross and the words ‘God bless Lisa’ inscribed on his skin.
Despite suspicion that he committed the heinous acts, he denied the killings and fingered his estranged wife’s lover and relatives as the perpetrators.
According to his story, he accompanied his aunts to Adventure backlands, on Saturday morning, to cut branches off coconut trees and make brooms for sale to villagers.alt
Whilst there, he said persons known to him and armed with cutlasses proceeded to inflict injuries on the women whilst he was forced to ingest the poisonous liquid.

SOME DISTANCE
Meanwhile, the bodies of Florry Papiah, 33, a mother of three and her friend, Jennifer Pooran, 19 , both of Lot 11 Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, were found some distance from each other, with the former having $500 in a pocket.
A bag containing three tennis rolls, a bottle of pepper, a bottle of aerated drink and a quantity of bora were next to Papiah, as well and her body bore wounds to the right breast, back of the neck and other parts.
Pooran’s corpse, which was under coconut branches, bore wounds to the throat and the right side chest.
Persons who viewed the remains of the women said decomposition had begun and speculated that whoever did the killings wanted to conceal the crimes.
The suspected murder weapon, a cutlass, was reportedly retrieved at the scene and identified as belonging to the suspect in police custody.
