GEORGETOWN Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday granted Ryan Adrian Dindyal bail in the sum of $500,000 after he appeared in court on a break-and-enter and larceny charge, wherein he was accused, together with others, of breaking and entering the dwelling house of James Williams and stealing a quantity of articles totaling $5.8M on August 18. Represented by Defence Counsel, Mr. Glenn Hanoman, he was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Counsel informed the court that his client was hired as a porter to fetch the articles to a truck. He said the accused was unaware that the articles were stolen.
Hanoman said only his client had been charged; the truck driver was not charged. He said it seems that his client ended up holding the wrong end of the stick.
Police Corporal, Shevon Jupiter, prosecuting, objected to bail on grounds that the articles were found in Dindyal’s possession, and some of the articles were also recovered at the home of Dindyal’s friend.
However, the magistrate overruled the prosecutor’s objection and granted bail to the accused. The matter will be called again on October 5.
