THE Canadian and USA Male Rugby teams have qualified for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens Tournament after they secured the two top spots in the NACRA Sevens Regional Qualifiers which was hosted over the weekend at the Twin Elm Park in Ottawa, Canada. Canada and USA, after making it to the final on the second day automatically qualified for the RWC. The host nation went on to defeat USA 26–19 in the final on Sunday afternoon. Mexico defeated Jamaica 17–12 in the third place showdown.
Finishing on top of Group A were Canada and Mexico; Group B’s top finishers were USA and Jamaica while Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and Guyana were the top finishers in Group C.
Both Guyana and T&T were knocked out in the quarterfinal round which meant they had to contest the Plate Competition against each other. Guyana went to defeat their opponent 27–0 to take the Plate.
Meanwhile, the Women’s tournament was won by Canada too. They defeated T&T 46–0 in the final. However, T&T have not advanced because USA have already taken a spot in the World Cup which means only one spot was available and Canada grabbed it.
