MICHELLE Walters, 45, of Lot 63 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of trafficking in narcotics. Appearing before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, she pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that, on August 24, she purported to traffic in eight grammes of cocaine.
Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-A-Fat represented the defendant and requested bail on special reasons. He told the court that a man ran into his client’s yard and threw the substance there.
He claimed that police then came into his client’s yard and arrested her for the substance they found.
However, Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, objected to bail and informed the court that his facts differed. He said the defendant was seen by police when she threw her purse to the ground. Bostwick said that when police carried out a search, the substance was found in her purse, and the defendant was arrested and charged.
The defendant was denied bail, and the matter will be called again on October 3.
