THE police are investigating another cocaine find at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Police reported that at about 16:45hrs on Tuesday, acting on information received, security officials at CJIA found a packet containing 1 kilogram 978 grams of cocaine in the vicinity of the western perimeter fence.
The narcotics have been handed over to the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud, told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that after CJIA officials learnt of the cocaine find, they summoned the police. Airport employees are being interviewed, but no arrests have yet been made.
Earlier in the year a large quantity of the illicit drug was found inside the perimeter fence, which investigators believed was thrown into the facility.
Only a few weeks ago another quantity of the drug was found on a baggage cart inside the airport.
