Slanting the Linden issue

I would like to express my profound disappointment with the malicious response of Kaieteur News and Capitol News to the Linden visit by President Donald Ramotar. I am certain that President Ramotar did not expect  red carpet treatment from those who had been carrying out the violent protests since July 18. But there were several groups of residents who met the President and discussed various issues. Anyone viewing the Capitol News on August 16 would draw the conclusion that the entire Linden community was hostile to him and wanted him to get out.
Mr. Editor, if you viewed other newscasts and photographs in newspapers, you would conclude that there were many persons who held friendly discussions with the President. The Editor of Capitol News Gordon Mosley is well known as an anti-government activist. But he is also the President of the Guyana Press Association (GPA), which places the onus on him to be impartial in reporting the news.
For the past month, Capitol News has been slanting the Linden issue in a one-sided manner, which is against the ethics of journalism.
On the other side, you have another established anti-PPP/C editor Adam Harris, who has been taking the same one-sided approach in reporting the Linden issue. Consider his negative page one lead in the August 17 edition of Kaieteur News, “President Ramotar rebuffed by hostile Lindeners.”
This Mr. Editor is a negative, false and unbalanced headline. The reporting was also very unbalanced. The whole objective was to make readers and viewers feel that the entire Linden community was hostile to President Ramotar.
This is totally untrue. Come on Adam and Gordon turn a new page in journalistic life. This does not prevent you from supporting the party of your choice.
