THE Jamzone Chutney “Summa” Concert put together by Hits and Jams Television (HJTV) pulled its curtains down at approximately 04:00 hrs last Sunday morning after several spectacular performances by all of the artists at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. The show featured artists such as Rick and Vanessa Ramoutar, Shakti Strings Band, the BMRZ Band headed by Anil Bheem, De Hunter, Vedesh Sukhoo, the Hitman, Rakesh Yankarran, Chris Garcia, Mahendra Ramkellawan, Kenrock, Fiona Singh, Terry Gajraj, Anant Hansraj and out of Holland; Ashine Singh and the Too Famous Band.
It was undoubtedly one of the best concerts in recent times. The highlight of the evening, however, was the last performance; the seductive and high energy two-hour performance by the Chutney King Ravi B and Queen Nisha B of the Karma Band which is the world’s number one cross-over band.
The Chutney King made a grand entrance as he took the mike before reaching the stage, mesmerising the crowd with his melodious voice.
With the lights dimmed Ravi B bounced his way up on stage with much enthusiasm followed by a magnificent sight, when the multi-coloured lights from the ceiling of the stage created a kaleidoscope, making the atmosphere look almost magical while he had the audience jumping to the beats of his hit single “Guyana” and the women of the stadium falling in love all over again with him.
As he appeared on stage, the thunderous screams from the more than 20,000 fans drowned out the sound system.
He then introduced Nisha B, who delivered a captivating performance singing her known hits such as “lying man”, “bison” etc and just being her usual self much to the pleasure of the male audience who simply couldn’t take their eyes off her in her little black dress.
Karma Band as promised delivered their performance with charisma and style. Ravi B did various chutney and soca hits such as “Wotless, Ah Drinka, Cyan come, Akela and much much more, even teaming up with the Hunter to do the famous “Jep sting” and even doing an almost perfect imitation of the Legend Mr. Machel Montano in terms of his energetic attitude on stage.
Sexy Vanessa Ramoutar who performed for the first time at Jamzone decked in a black Dutch dress had the crowd going wild as she awed the audience with an alluring performance while interacting with members of the public singing various chutney hits.
Rick Ramoutar came out shortly after Sexy Vanessa to the cheers of the highly pumped gathering performing his very own “Ah shoulda neva”, “Single” among many others.
Guyana’s own Shakti Strings Band took the stage and delivered their usual enigmatic performance which had the crowd on their feet and moving to the beats of chutney, soca and dancehall hits, each after the other. There is a reason why Aamir Khan, Prince JP, Pooran Seeraj and the rest of the orchestra is known as Guyana’s best cross-over band.
Vedesh Sukhoo made his casual appearance on the stage singing hit after hit such as “Dhal Belly Indian” and his newest chutney single “Gun”
Meanwhile, Jamzone Honoree and singing legend of Guyana, Terry Gajraj accompanied on stage by Anant Hanraj stole the crowd’s heart and soul with his steady praise and dedication to his beautiful country at the end of which he was presented an award by Hits and Jams Manager, Kerwin Bollers.
The other artists; Chris Garcia, Rakesh Yankarran, the Hitman, Mahendra Ramkellawan and Fiona Singh all put their best foot forward into making their performances both memorable and extremely enjoyable.
Ashnie Singh and the Too Famous Band were the second to last act and the forever cultured Ashnie Singh had her say to Guyana through the melody of her hit “Moree Ghane Suno” among others. The Too Famous Band displayed their talents in Indian classical music and had the audience singing along to their newest hit “Juggu Juggu”.
The Fanatic and Firefest Dancers headed by Granny Ivelaw was quite an enigmatic act by themselves as they did quite a few dance numbers keeping the audience lively at certain intervals of the show.
Each performance was unique and classy in its own way as the artists chose to bring their own charismatic and breathtaking styles to the stage. The performances were incredible, even by the standards of the harshest critic.
The show started at approximately 20:30 hrs with the dancers heating things up for the night as they ‘popped’ some popular Indian, English, Chutney, and soca flavours, and set the momentum with their groovy sounds.
The show was attended by both Guyanese and foreigners and the delegates of the Ms Jamzone Pageant were also present, followed by the brief presence of Ms. Canada 2012, Ms. Jaclyn Miles who is vacationing in Guyana, along with reigning Ms India Worldwide, Alana Seebarran.
Chutney “Summa” Concert was one of the most highly enjoyable events which many will sure be talking about for quite some time.
