IDB Cultural Development Programme… GUYANA AMONG 26 COUNTRIES TO RECEIVE FINANCING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

GUYANA is among 26 countries selected to receive financing and technical support for cultural projects under the Cultural Development Programme of The Inter–American Development Bank (IDB). The grants were awarded to innovative projects for technical training, art, music, and theatre instruction for educators.
The African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) and the University of Guyana’s Department of Language and Cultural Studies will receive the grants designed to support artistic and creative endeavours for Drum Renaissance and Puppets and Stories derived from Oral Traditions in Regions 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
The projects were evaluated for their viability, educational scope, effective use of resources, ability to mobilize additional sources of financing, and long-term impact on the community.
Since 1994, the Cultural Development Programme of the IDB Cultural Centre has co-sponsored cultural projects in the 26 countries of the hemisphere. These projects include training communities surrounding archaeological sites to help them preserve and manage their cultural patrimony; restoration of historical sites for educational and economic purposes; docent and youth educational development through the arts; implementation of literature, poetry, theatre, craft making, and dance performances workshops in areas never before reached by development projects.
The IDB Cultural Centre was established in 1992 with the aim of contributing  to social development by providing grants to small-scale cultural projects that have positive social impact in the Region, and to showcase the artistic expressions of the IDB member countries, with emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean, through cultural programmes that bring understanding between the Region and the rest of the world.
