THE Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment will be collaborating with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) during Mining Week 2012, the annual salute to the mining sector, year. Mining Week is being observed from August 19 to 25 under the theme “Investments and Technological Growth for sustainability in the Mining Sector.”
The actual observances will be preceded by the National Mining Fair, an exhibition of mining tools and equipment, which will be held on the tarmac of the National Park starting from Saturday August 18th.
The Mining Fair which will continue on August 19th will be held from 3 PM to 9PM on both days and admission is free of charge.
Culminating with Pork-knocker Day at Bartica on August 25th, this year’s observances will also include a Mining Week Walk in Georgetown on August 19th starting from the Bank of Guyana Building at 7AM and ending at the Girl Guides’ pavilion; a presentation of awards ceremony on Tuesday 21st; and an International Mining opportunities seminar at the Princess Hotel on Thursday, August 23rd from 9AM to 4PM.
The Pork-knocker Day/ Fun Day will be held at the Regatta Pavilion, Golden Beach, Bartica, on the 25th August and will be culminating activity for Mining Week 2012.
