WITH just seven days more before the official commencement of the 2nd Annual Inter Guiana Cultural Festival where seven disciplines will be showcased between the three Guiana’s the Arts & Craft department of the local coordinating team has indicated that plans are full on stream. Speaking with the local coordinator, Ms. Denzil Hollingsworth explained that her department is on course with their preparation. A training seminar began yesterday for the local exhibitors; and in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the (IGCF) will train the local participants in customer relations.
She explained that there will be 50 local exhibitors, with a similar number from Suriname and French Guiana, and the exhibition will be located on Main Street between Church and Middle Streets.
The exhibition, she noted, will see several categories being displayed and it is expected that an exciting networking is to be established. Workshops and seminars to foster relationships, training, exchanging of ideas and bilateral trade arrangements are expected to come out from this programme.
Suriname is expected to display a number of their true Amerindian and natural fibre craft, as the contingent from French Guiana is expected to display their type of jewelry. During the period of August 23 to 26 a seminar under the theme ‘A Successful Craft Industry, Joint Venture Partnership’ will be held where participants from the three Guianas will share and demonstrate ideas in accordance with the theme.
It is expected to be a huge exhibition with a wide scale of craft to which Guyana will get a first hand experience.
Meanwhile, with respect to the Visual Arts discipline, coordinator Philbert Gajadhar confirmed Guyana’s participation and explained to the Guyana Chronicle that the visual arts exhibition will be held for the first time in two categories of exhibitors, the first being the locals who would be showcasing pieces in ceramics, drawings, paintings, designs and sculpture. He noted that the pieces will be juried and the final pieces will be placed on display.
The other category will see the signature artists such as, Winslow Craig, Bernadette Persaud, Carl Anderson and cartoonist Paul Harris. He indicated that this will be the first time that a cartoon artist will be on a national or international visual arts exhibition and it is at a time where it will be used as a signature event.
Workshops and seminar will be held during this period where a number of ideas will be shared across the Guianas for the first time in the form of a body canvas. Bravo Arts will showcase body painting.
