I write to condemn the Guyana Human Rights Association (GHRA) for its continual pursuit of derailing the process of law and order. GHRA by its initial silence has supported the violence in Linden, and by speaking out now when the persons appointed to keep the peace and security of the land have acted to do just so, the GHRA openly throws its support behind the move towards violence.
The history of press releases sent out by the GHRA over the years, also clearly supports its agenda, of showing no support for victims at any time, only condemning the police and army who are the keepers of law and order.
In the latest move by this body, it is made very clear, that this one-man show has displayed consistent bias over the years. During the crime spree in the early 2000s when 23 policemen were killed in the line of duty, the GHRA has never expressed concern about the human rights of those victims of violent death.
However, when the perpetrators of the crime were caught, they began yelling loudly about the human rights of the killers who refused to accept law and order and committed crimes that left the families of those policemen hurting. What about the human rights of those families? Does the GHRA have no care for them?
The GHRA is quick to condemn what it terms ‘police brutality’, yet that same GHRA did not condemn the brutality meted out by criminals when:

1. Criminals roamed freely on the East Coast corridor in the early 2000s and 23 policemen were killed in the line of duty.
2. 11 persons, including children, were brutally shot and killed at Lusignan
3. The Minister of Agriculture, his sister and security guard were slain.
4. Women are killed by their spouses
5. Girls are raped and their attackers walk free because charges are withdrawn.
6. When Neesa Gopaul was murdered
7. A man battered his partner with a hammer
8. Eight miners were slain at Lindo Creek
9. 10 persons were slain at Bartica
10. Little children below eight years are raped and nobody is arrested.

Where is the GHRA when the victims and their relatives are in sore need of support and solace? The organisation supports them all right, but when the criminals are about to be brought to justice, the GHRA conveniently forgets the nature of their crimes.
The GHRA has accused the police force of using excessive and sometimes deadly force, yet the organisation always does so when the persons for whom they are defending on the basis of human rights are the persons who are guilty of having some part in committing the acts or those like the ones listed above.
They have now taken to attacking the police once again on the Linden situation.
As far as I can see, the Linden protest held at Linden was never a peaceful protest. The Linden protest held in Georgetown was peaceful. The difference between the two clearly demonstrates what is peaceful and what is not.
