THERE was no incursion of military troops into Linden in the early hours of Friday morning August 10, 2012. There was no attempt at a military solution at that time.
The Joint Services Command is on record publicly rejecting the claims of GHRA and others to that effect. The Secretary to the Defence Board is on record also denying any such incursion and has further indicated that he gave assurances to that effect to Dr. Rupert Roopnarine on Wednesday, August 08, 2012, immediately after the meeting between the Government of Guyana and the Region 10 delegations.
This sudden re-awakening of GHRA and its assertion about a Friday military incursion in Linden must be explained.
It would seem that it is only now that GHRA has come to realize what is happening in Linden and has decided to find someone to blame.
Once again, GHRA stood silent, this time watching Linden burn. GHRA found it convenient to be silent in the face of wanton destruction of property and threats to the lives of PPP members in Linden.
Their contention puts them in the same company as Benschop Radio and Demerara Waves, media outlets that are the embodiment of anti- government hostility.
GHRA must know that Benschop Radio and Demerara Waves on the evening of Thursday, August 09, 2012, stated that the military had moved into Linden, cleared bridges and removed obstacles off the roads; the records would show nothing of the sort had occurred.
Neither Benschop Radio nor Demerara Waves has found it proper to correct those false statements, and now GHRA has joined them in making similar claims.
There are footage and records that would show that on the early hours of Friday morning, August 10, 2012, the bridge was still blocked, the road still has obstacles and the status quo was preserved.
Neither the GHRA nor the hostile media has publicised the situation in McKenzie since the Joint Services clearing of the roads and bridges of obstacles. The citizens of McKenzie have restored the normal pattern travelling freely to and from McKenzie to Georgetown. Commercial activities have resumed.
GHRA and the hostile media have not seen it fit to bring those developments to the attention of Guyanese. The example of McKenzie brought about by the actions of the Joint Services is worthy of emulation in Wismar. It is obvious that GHRA and its ilk think that the people of Wismar do not deserve the same.
There was preservation of the status quo that indeed, on Wismar bridge, protestors were still in control and there was no effort in the wee hours of Friday to remove those protestors.
