THE Office of the President and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment wish to clarify the status of Major General (rtd) Joseph Singh as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), according to a statement from the Office of the President. “The Office of the President and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment wish to state that Major General (rtd) enjoys full support of the Government,” the statement said.
“We do not share the view that Mr. Singh has taken anti-mining positions in the discharge of his responsibility as the Chairman of the GGMC or in any other official capacity. This position was taken at a meeting between the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association and His Excellency, President Donald Ramotar and Hon. Robert M. Persaud, Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment on August 02, 2012.
“The committed and responsible leadership of Major General (rtd) Singh as Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission is duly recognized by the Government and many other stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
