GRANTING of land titles to nine Amerindian communities will be a highlight of the 2012 National Toshaos Council (NTC) Conference to be held at the Guyana International Conference Centre at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown scheduled for August 6 to 10 next. Of the nine, two are in Region 1 (Barima/Waini) four in Region 7 (Cuyuni/Mazaruni) two in Region 9 (Upper Takatu/ Upper Essequibo) and one in Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Berbice).
This was disclosed by Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon during his post Cabinet media briefing at Office of the President yesterday.
Another highlight of the five-day conference will be the holding of elections for a new executive for the body comprising leaders of more than one hundred Amerindian communities throughout Guyana.
Dr Luncheon said that the annual Toshaos meeting continues to be a defining annual event which brings together the elected representatives of the Amerindians in dedicated sessions with the administration to deal with issues relevant to the development of their communities.
Mrs. Yvonne Pearson of the Amerindian community of Mainstay on the Essequibo Coast is the current Chairperson of the National Toshaos Council.
