HAVING fostered a relationship with the Guyana Squash Racquet Association (GSRA) two years ago, telecommunications service provider Digicel (Guyana) Incorporated yesterday said thanks to Guyana’s squash players who last week retained an unprecedented eighth Caribbean Junior squash crown with a cocktail reception at Hermandston House in Queenstown. According to former national player Andrew Arjoon, the Guyanese performance at the just concluded championships in Jamaica, that saw the Girls team easily retaining their crown, while the Boys finished third, thus enabling Guyana to take the overall title, was made possible through Digicel.
“None of this would have been possible, if it were not for Digicel who having joined forces with us two years ago, saw the successful hosting of our Saturday and schools’ programme, from which several players made it onto the national team, ” said Arjoon.
In her brief remarks, Digicel’s Marketing Manager Jacqueline James, a Jamaican by birth, showered praise on the team, while brimming with confidence when she spoke of their eighth overall title win.
“I would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to you on your recent success…. Your overall championship success was great and it was good to see some young players on the team this year and it is an honour for Digicel to be a part of this success.
We want to make sure that talent in the country keeps growing, as it is one way of supporting our young people and while we want to support you the successful squash team, at the same time we want to make sure you continue winning titles as you have done over the years,” said James.
Following those brief remarks, the players took a photo opportunity with James, before partaking in the cocktail reception.
