Global Technology rewards GRFU summer programme participants

DURING a simple presentation ceremony at the Global Technology (GT) building, Camp Street, four outstanding Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) Summer Programme participants were rewarded with scholarships which would enhance their information technology ability. The participants Shemar Blackman, Daniel De A’breau, Kenia Scott and Sarah Crossman, accompanied by their parents, received their scholarship awards from GT’s Sheliza Khan to commence three foundation courses –  Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Word 2010.
The students were among 36 who attended a two-week summer camp, organised by GRFU’s Technical Development and Youth Officer Troy Yhip, who explained that the summer programme was the second of its kind, organised by the GRFU, in which some 70 students have benefited over the past two years.
He noted that the GRFU has a Saturday community development youth programme which also sees another 35 in attendance weekly.
The programme is still in its initial stage and targets the basic skills in the game, running, catching and kicking while in the second year the young players were exposed to tackling and contact plays in small groups.
Yhip indicated that the summer programme gives the participants all-round exposure to the game. He closed after he expressed his gratitude to Global Technology for its timely intervention.
