ALBION Cricket Club (ACC) was last Sunday, the recipient of a new set of clothing to start its 2012 -2013 season. At the presentation ceremony Community Development Officer and former captain of the ACC first division team Orvin Mangru expressed the club’s gratitude to the donor Ajit Mootoo for providing Albion with the clothing.
According to Mangru, Mootoo’s contributions to the club over the years have allowed Albion to be one of the best attired teams in the country when taking the cricket field and that was also matched by their performance on it.
Mootoo expressed his appreciation to the executives of ACC for allowing him to be associated with Albion’s cricket and promised to continue his support in the years to come.
Albion first Test cricketer Sew Shivnarine who was present at the ceremony urged the younger cricketers to remain disciplined and focused on representing their country and the region at large.
Manager of the team Muthuswammi Permaul, who explained how fortunate the club was to have Mootoo on board, also took the opportunity to dissociate his club from the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) press statement for not allowing a team to play in the Inter-county Under-15 tournament.
Permaul also expressed his displeasure with the selection process for the Under-19 team, where both Kandasammy Surujnarine and Lloydel Lewis were not selected to represent Guyana this year, having been part of last year’s team and having done well in all forms of cricket for their respective clubs.
He called on the executives of the BCB and all other stakeholders not to play politics with the cricket because at the end of the day the cricketers will suffer.
Dhanraj Singh Budhoo made brief remarks at the presentation ceremony and promised to express Albion’s gratitude to their associates in the USA and Canada.
