Splashmin’s drowning victim ventured beyond safe boundaries – management says in press release

A POST-MORTEM conducted on the body of 14-year-old Kevin Ram, on Wednesday last, has confirmed that he died from drowning. He perished on Sunday, July 22, after he ventured beyond the boundaries designated for safe swimming at Splashmin’s Fun Park and Resort, along Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
His friend, Paramdev Nanan, 15, who also encountered difficulties in the water, survived and is currently in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
At a wake held in Ram’s memory Monday night, at his Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo home, relatives and friends gathered to offer support to his family.
The lad was a student in the Secondary Department of Saraswat Primary School, West Coast Demerara, where his teachers described him as “an angel only sent on earth for a short time.”
He was laid to rest on July 26.
Meanwhile, management and staff of Splashmin’s, in a press release, stated that they remain committed to the safe enjoyment of their facilities.
But they would like to remind patrons to “ensure park rules and guidelines are adhered to” especially the one that states: “Please do not leave young children unattended in the water at any time without some form of adult supervision.”
Public Relations Officer of Splashmin’s Fun Park, Ms. Rose Gunraj advised that there were three lifeguards on duty on Sunday, July 22, at the time Ram drowned.
She said, though, that the lifeguards’ attention was focused on the designated swimming areas and none of them noticed the two boys venturing beyond the stipulated boundaries.
