SEXAGENARIAN Peter Kissoon was freed of a break and enter and larceny charge after the virtual complainant, Megel Carlton Toney, a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) member, failed to attend court hearings. The 69-year-old grandfather, of Lot 56 Albert Street, Corriverton, had been accused of breaking into a snackette on Matthew Allen Road and stealing an amplifier, a DVD player, an equalizer, a suitcase, 10 bottles of ‘Tropical’ juice, seven bottles of ‘Tampico’ juice, two 10-inch speakers and $45,000, making a total loss of $180,000.
However, following the closure of the case for the prosecution, in which the investigating rank testified, Kissoon, in his defence, denied the charge and said he was walking along the Stelling Road in New Amsterdam,on March 4 last ,when he saw a man who offered him the items for $20,000.
He said, shortly after he accepted the offer, on being informed that the articles were stolen, he handed them over to the police.
Kissoon has a narcotic possession case pending.
