HAVING formed the Berbice Softball Board (BSB) with the aim to further strengthen the game of softball cricket in the Ancient County of Berbice, the BSB has announced their squad for Sunday’s four team tournament at the Port Mourant ground. The four teams who will be doing battle for $200,000 and a trophy are Berbice XI, Wolf Warriors, Demerara Select XI and reigning Guyana Telephone and Telegraph 10/10 champions Regal XI, while female 10/10 champions Trophy Stall Angels and a Berbice Select XI will do battle in an exhibition encounter for $50,000 and a trophy.
Apart from the first place prize, the second, third and fourth placed finishers in the male category, as well as the runner up in the female category, best batsman and bowler respectively, will all receive trophies.
National T20 selectee Rajiv Ivan along with Imran Khan, Balram Samaroo, Sharmindra Hardyal and Devendra Thakurdeen, have all been included in the 15 man squad, with Ivan tipped to lead the team and Samaroo his deputy.
Berbice provisional squad for Sunday reads: Rajiv Ivan, Balram Samaroo, David Looknauth, Lalbachan Veerasammy, Imran Khan, Sharmindra Hardyal, Sasenarine Earnest, Joshua Garnett, Rambharat, Devendra Thakurdeen, Poorendra Debidyal, Chandrashkker Arjune, Shazir Kandasammy, Khalendal Khemlall and Vishal Singh.
Kwesi Maltay will execute the duties of coach of the team while Omeshwar Sirikishun is the manager and all players named above, are asked to be at the Port Mourant ground for 15:00hrs (3pm) tomorrow afternoon for training and debriefing sessions.
